South Charleston, W. Va. - BridgeValley Community & Technical College will host its 26th Annual Capital City Pumpkin Drop competition on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the GoMart Ball Park in Charleston. Festivities begin with check-in at 8:00 AM.

Each fall, the Pumpkin Drop brings together students from local schools for a hands-on STEAM challenge. Teams carefully design and build protective contraptions to keep their pumpkins intact when dropped from great heights. The competition highlights creativity, engineering, and collaboration while demonstrating how classroom concepts apply to real-world problem-solving.

The day’s schedule includes registration at 8:00 AM, opening ceremonies at 8:30 AM, and the official start of the Pumpkin Drop at 9:00 AM. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony at approximately 1:00 PM, recognizing the most innovative and successful designs.

“The Pumpkin Drop is a fun and dynamic way for students to experience STEAM in action,” said Kristi Sarrett, Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education at BridgeValley. “We are thrilled to continue this tradition that inspires young people to explore engineering and science in an exciting, hands-on environment.”

The public and media are invited to attend this popular fall tradition. For more than two decades, the Pumpkin Drop has celebrated creativity, emphasized the importance of STEAM education, and brought the community together for a day of learning and fun.
