SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The BridgeValley Community and Technical College Board of Governors voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Chris Treadway as the college’s next president. Dr. Treadway, a respected higher education leader with extensive experience in academic administration, workforce development, public policy, and strategic planning, will assume the role on July 1, 2026.
The BridgeValley Community and Technical College Board of Governors released a statement saying "We are excited to welcome Dr. Chris Treadway as the next president of BridgeValley Community and Technical College to grow our success and honor our rich history. His combination of improving opportunities for students, statewide leadership experience, policy expertise, and a deep understanding of the mission of community and technical colleges will benefit our college and the state of West Virginia. He has a strong record of advancing higher education initiatives, supporting workforce development, and prioritizing student success all made him our unanimous choice to successfully lead BridgeValley."
"I am deeply honored by the Board's confidence in me and grateful for the opportunity to lead BridgeValley Community and Technical College,” said Dr. Treadway. “As a lifelong resident of the Kanawha Valley and a product of Kanawha County Schools, this appointment holds special meaning for me. BridgeValley has a talented and dedicated team of faculty and staff, and I look forward to working alongside them to continue the college's important work of preparing students for meaningful careers and strengthening the communities we serve."
Dr. Treadway was selected following a national search that included input from members of the college community and key stakeholders.
Dr. Treadway currently serves as Vice Chancellor for Community and Technical College Education for the West Virginia Community and Technical College System, where he provides strategic leadership for statewide initiatives involving academic program development, workforce education, technology innovation, student recruitment and retention, grant administration, and the delivery of community and technical college education throughout West Virginia.
Prior to serving as Vice Chancellor, Dr. Treadway led the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission's Division of Policy and Planning, where he oversaw development of Explorer, the state's interactive higher education data portal, and helped lead creation of West Virginia's statewide higher education funding formula. His work has also included support of major statewide initiatives designed to improve college access, affordability, workforce readiness, and institutional effectiveness.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Treadway served as Director of the West Virginia STARBASE Academy, a federally funded Department of Defense STEM outreach program hosted by the 130th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia National Guard. During his tenure, he provided leadership at both the state and national levels while helping expand STEM learning opportunities for students throughout West Virginia.
Dr. Treadway earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Marshall University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Charleston.
