SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. – BridgeValley Community and Technical College has appointed Dr. Christina C. Johnson as Vice President for Academic Affairs to start in January after the retirement of long-time Vice President, Suzette Breeden.

Dr. Johnson brings more than 18 years of higher-education experience to the role, including over a decade of service at BridgeValley in academic and administrative leadership positions. She most recently served as Interim Chief Academic Officer and Provost at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, where she led initiatives to strengthen academic quality, compliance, and student success.

“Dr. Johnson is an accomplished leader whose experience and dedication to student achievement make her the right choice to guide BridgeValley’s academic enterprise,” said Dr. Casey K. Sacks, President of BridgeValley. “Her deep understanding of our college and her collaborative approach will help us continue to deliver high-quality programs that serve students and employers across the region.”

At BridgeValley, Dr. Johnson has served as Assistant Vice President of Assessment and Accreditation, Associate Dean of Academic Assessment and Student Learning, and Department Chair of Science and Collaborative Programs. As the college’s Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Liaison Officer, she has overseen successful institutional and programmatic reviews and strengthened systems for assessment and continuous improvement.

Dr. Johnson also serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, contributing to regional quality-assurance efforts in higher education. She holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies with an emphasis in Community College Administration and a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from Marshall University, along with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and an Associate of Science in Business Technology from West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
